Why am I a Foundation Governor?
Ms Gillian Deans
Having been involved in the strong, positive, loving and supportive community of St Luke’s Church since moving back to my hometown over 20 years ago I was appointed by St Luke’s PCC as a Foundation Governor in 2012. I was nervous but excited to assist with preserving and developing the religious character of the school and an ever-deepening partnership between church and our school’s community. What swayed me to swallow my fear and take up the role was the desire to find a way of giving something back to a school that our 2 daughters, and we as a family have greatly benefitted from at Farnworth School, both during their time as pupils there and beyond.
I see my role as a ‘critical friend’ and hoped to support the role by bringing with me over 25 years of experience of working with children in education from EYFS to 16+ and in voluntary roles too. I currently sit on the Curriculum & Standards Committee as Chair and I am a member of Halton’s Standing Advisory Council for Religious Education, through which I aim to give our school community another of many opportunities to be a prominent voice in Halton.
I am humbled and find it such a valuable experience to work with a dedicated set of fellow governors to promote high standards of educational achievement for our children.
Mrs Helen Blackburn
Being a School Governor is part of my job as Team Rector and it helps me support and be fully involved in the local community. It’s a joy to work closely with Farnworth School and achieve the Church School Partnership Awards 1 and 2. It’s rewarding to work with Jackie Stillings as she and all the staff work very hard to provide the very best education they can. As a Governor we support the head and staff as we all have the same aim of working towards being an outstanding school. The Governors are a great bunch of people who are passionate about the education of Farnworth children.
