Why am I a Co-opted Governor?

  • Ms Angela Murray

Vice Char of Governing Body Co-opted Governor

As a parent, I always felt passionate about how great a school Farnworth was and indeed is. Both of my children flourished and were very happy there. I was one of the founding members of the PTA and enjoyed meeting many other like-minded parents who have since become great friends.
When my working situation changed and the opportunity to stand as a Parent Governor arose I was keen to take the opportunity to give something back to both the school and the wider community. It has been hard work and there has been a lot to learn but the rewards far out way the effort.
After my youngest son left school in 2016 I stepped down as a Parent Governor and subsequently accepted the invitation to continue as a Co-opted member of the Governing Body. I am proud to be a part of the Governing Body at Farnworth and strive to ensure that all of our pupils have the very best educational experience and opportunities possible.

  • Mrs Susan Houghton

    Co-opted Governor

I am passionate about our school and have been connected to it for 24 years. I felt that I wanted to give something back to the school that had made my boys so settled and happy and where they began their successful educational journeys- many of their teachers are still here!

  • Mrs Gillian Bennett

    Co-opted Governor

I am a lifelong resident of Widnes. I qualified as a primary teacher in 1986 and worked in four primary schools in Liverpool, including as Deputy and Headteacher, for 16 years. Following this I worked for Halton Borough Council for 14 years as a school improvement adviser and senior adviser and was appointed as Halton’s Head of Service for Education, a position that I held until February 2016. Following 30 years of fulltime employment in education and school improvement I have now established myself as an independent school improvement consultant and trainer. I have served on a number of governing boards over the past eight years and very much enjoy this voluntary role. I currently sit on four boards: Hallwood Park, Bridgewater Park and Palace Fields and most recently, Farnworth CE Primary. I am committed to school improvement and am pleased to have been asked to serve as a governor at Farnworth CE School.
